Hannah Montana Soundtrack Success
Four Successful Albums and Counting
Hannah Montana started out as a TV show on the Disney channel and exploded into a mini empire of four successful Hannah soundtrack albums and a movie. All the shows and music albums star Miley Cyrus, who plays the part of Hannah Montana. Miley's real-life father, Billy Ray Cyrus, also plays a prominent part in this Disney operation.
According the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the original Hannah soundtrack has been certified for sales of three million copies. Wikipedia states that it has reached 3,672,000 copies.
The other Hannah soundtracks have been successful but seem to be lagging behind the original soundtrack with the exception of the second soundtrack, which has achieved almost the same number of sales as the original. Of course, the original came out first, so we have to wait and see what happens.
Here are the sales figures I could muster on the other three soundtracks coming out of the Hannah Montana enterprise:
Soundtrack 2:
Hannah Montana 2/Meet Miley Cyrus - 3,226,000 copies
Soundtrack 3:
Hannah Montana: The Movie - 1,537,000 copies
Soundtrack 4:
Hannah Montana 3 (third album for the TV show) - around 500,000 copies
Note, also, that there are some other soundtracks or albums out there related to Hannah Montana or Miley Cyrus, but these are the four related directly to the TV show or movie.
As these franchises always come to an end eventually, it is not surprising to see dwindling results in the sales of these Hannah soundtracks. Just like Hilary Duff and the Lizzie McGuire franchise was eventually replaced by the new Disney teens, Miley is getting older, and the franchise will likely come to an end in the next two or three years. Nonetheless, Disney and its Walt Disney Records seem to have an incredible method of reinventing this formula every few years.
