Michael Mizrachi Makes 2010 Main Event Final Table (November Nine)

Poker pro Michael Mizrachi is on a massive heater in 2010. In the first major event of the 2010 World Series of Poker, Mizrachi demonstrated his overall poker skills by taking down the $50K Poker Players Championship. The 50K Players Championship switched to an 8-game mixed format for 2010.Mizrachi had to play a format of eight different poker variations (but with No Limit Hold 'Em only at the final table) to take down this prestigious event.

Now, fast forward to the last major event of the 2010 World Series of Poker -- the No Limit Hold 'Em Main Event. In the morning hours of July 18, the event played down to the final table until the now-yearly hiatus until the final table in November. Despite being short stacked for the entire last day, Mizrachi managed to hang on and make the November 9 for 2010. The final table (November 9) participants will resume play on November 1, 2010, with the winner taking home just under $9 million.

What is impressive about Mizrachi's feat is the range of skills necessary to achieve both of these results. In addition to No Limit Hold 'Em, the only game played in the Main Event, Michael Mizrachi had to play against many specialists in Stud, Razz, Omaha, 2-7 Triple Draw and other games. In other words, Mizrachi has shown a great amount of overall poker skill for this great run during the 2010 Series. Of course, wading through a field of over 7300 players in the Main Event to get to the final table makes this run that much more impressive.

The poker world has seen major heaters. In fact, both winning streaks and losing streaks are the norm in poker. But this would be the first time a player takes down the Players Championship and the Main Event in the same year. In fact, none of the previous winners of the 50K event have ever won the Main Event except Scotty Nguyen (Nguyen won the 2008 Players Championship and the 1998 WSOP Main Event 10 years earlier). And considering that the Main Event now has about 6500 or more entrants every year, this may be the closest anyone ever comes to accomplishing this feat.

So regardless of what happens on November 1, Michael Mizrachi has accomplished a feat that may never be broken --winning the Players Championship and making the final table of the Main Event in the same year. Anything more than that would just be a bonus at this point.
